Diwali Ads 2024: Netflix, Finolex and Orchids International School

Diwali is probably the most popular festival in India. I have no data to back it up, and it is just my hunch, but going by the number of ads which believe in talking to the consumers with Diwali related or Diwali specific adverts, I might be right.

This Diwali as well, there were many ads launched. I posted about some earlier in this post.

In today’s post I am looking a few more, along with a bit of my opinion, as usual.

Netflix Parivaar ki taraf se, Happy Diwali!

Netflix has become synonymous with streaming nowadays. Being the pioneer it has been quite pervasive all over the world. Even in India, it has made great inroads. So much so that nowadays, what’s hot on Netflix becomes a topic of frequent discussion.

In this advert, Netflix tries to weave in the family connect story, but in this, the family is the Netflix viewers family. It talks about how the popular shows have helped people make conversations and connections. Whether it being sharing memes with friends about Netflix shows, or bumping into strangers watching the same shows as you are watching, or boldly wearing merchandise of your favourite shows, the connection between people is clear: it is Netflix.

It is a nice ad with a feel good factor in it. They have a point, and they have made a nice storytelling ad connecting the Diwali wishes as the Netflix family. I like the creativity and the narration in this advert.

A thumbs up from me!

Diwali 2024 | Finolex Pipes & Fittings

The ad starts with a house wife on a phone call, complaining about the pipes leaking. The voice from the other side (presumably, the plumber) says that there will be a response from the technical team soon.

Then she is on the phone (again presumably) with her husband on the other side, asking him to come back home early. But he disappoints her, and then the next 15 seconds of the ad are spent complaining about how nobody cares and how she is doing all of these things despite having acquired some education.

The calling bell rings and she goes out to meet the plumber. It turns out to be a woman.

She has a nice

tête-à-tête with the plumber lady and it is revealed that the house wife is working on a nice dress which the plumber applauds and requests for one for her niece.

The housewife is taken aback and is speechless coz she just does it for a hobby. The plumber later explains that she can do it as a business as well and then the ad ends with the plumber placing the first order.

Basically it is a 3 minute long story which tries to convey the message that Goddess Lakhsmi can come in any form during Diwali, even in the form of a plumber who inspires the housewife to pursue things which she is good at and turn it into a business.

Ok, my opinion?

I was tired watching this never ending ad, but it is well meaning and somehow went through it. I think it was too long and could have been cut short. The story has nothing to do with Finolex pipes, except for the Diwali greetings.

Bottomline: a forgettable and won’t watch again type of advert.

Diyon Se Dil Tak | A Diwali Film | ORCHIDS The International School

This was a nice heartwarming advert. The story begins with kids in the school sharing their intentions during Diwali. Then they ask the security guard on what his plans are, to which he replies, he can’t leave the school alone during Diwali, so he will be on duty. So, the kids plan to decorate the school and come visit him during the evening and they celebrate Diwali together. Diyon se Dil tak (from Lamps till hearts), is a nice message from the school. Pretty cute advert I would say.

That gives it a thumbs up from me!

So, overall in today’s post, 2 thumbs up and 1 down.

Cheers! Happy Diwali!
