I watched this advert over and over again for a few times to really try and make a connection between the product and the message that is being passed on in this advert. Here’s what I gathered: It is a product placement in a Diwali short video which also talks about sharing joys and togetherness with friends during the festive season.
Throughout the advert, the focus is on the characters getting together to celebrate the festival of lights, and then going through the usual rituals of playing cards, dancing, bursting crackers (thank you for the pollution Crocs), etc.

The only product related message I could gather is that there are different crocs in each person’s feet, which they show once a while. And they have quite a collection I must say. I am not of the opinion that they are beautiful, but they have a range in the advert I must admit.

Well, at least in the advert, while, in reality, whenever you visit a Crocs store they are usually very poorly stocked in terms of variety and sizes (way to go Crocs).
It ends with the scene of all members sitting together (in their different Crocs) and the message reads “Share the Joy”.

Hmmm… what do I say? Normally ads are expected to have a message that relates to the brand, or their offering. I am not very clear about what Crocs as a brand stands for. I always thought they are super popular due to their functionality and not their looks. They do look hideous actually.
In fact, before they became weirdly popular the movie makers of Idiocracy (a interestingly thought provoking movie btw) came across the Crocs as a start up and decided to use them because they thought it would never take off as popular.
Anyway, my point being, I expect advertising and marketing budget to be spent on promoting the brand and its offerings. But it seems Crocs has taken a roundabout way to achieve brand recall via talking about Diwali togetherness which has nothing to do with the brand. I believe they could have done better if the ad focused a bit more on the brand offerings and functionality than the variety of shoes and colours they showed. The message as well should have been more connected to the brand.
Maybe they suggested gifting as one of the takeaways from the advert as shown in one of the clips.

But it is hardly clear to me. The gifting appears like maybe 3 seconds in the 1 minute and 20 seconds ad.
I don’t see any other message to be taken away from this advert related to the brand. Honestly, they could have done better. The song is catchy, the actors are good and the production quality is top notch. But it also felt like the people who wrote this have absolutely no commitment to the brand.
Anyway, that’s just me looking at it with my hard to please glasses. If you feel that this ad has some merit, do leave your opinion in the comments and I would be happy to read and respond.
Here’s their advert below. In case it doesn’t work, you can follow this link to see their advert on YouTube. But if you ask me again then I would say it would probably be a waste of your time. Period.
