When I was a young marketing executive fresh after my MBA, I was very ambitious but also oblivious about how to build brands. We studied Kotler and Keller back in college and it was informative. But if you ask me who and what taught me the most about brand building, it is Professor David Aaker, through his books. There are 3 of them that I read and they have helped me build my knowledge and proficiency over the years.
Here’s the list.
1. Building Strong brands
That is the first book that one should read. Aaker helps you understand the fundamentals of brand building by citing examples of real businesses and real brands.
2. Managing Brand Equity
This book covers an understanding of brand equity and how to maintain and grow the strength of the brands. Another good read for brand managers
3. Brand Leadership
This book helped me understand how number 1 brands think. The likes of Coca Cola and Mcdonalds who lead their categories display ample cases for newbies to learn from.
