AI Refrigerator Wars! Godrej vs Samsung

AI has taken over a lot of discussion nowadays. In any business, any field, people are throwing up AI in more conversations than not. So, it is not a surprise that even refrigerators nowadays boast about AI. I just discovered this advert yesterday as I was browsing through the new articles. So, I wondered let’s see what AI refrigerators give us nowadays. So, I just put a table together below to compare the features of the players I found who offer AI enabled refrigerators: Samsung and Godrej.

Let’s look at Godrej first. Their advert just dropped.

If you go by their advert claims, the Godrej AI Powered refrigerators sense food load and consumer usage pattern and then it accordingly adjusts the cooling, thus ensuring long lasting freshness. The ad tries to show a typical family with the dad opening the fridge repeatedly and the kid expressing concern that the fridge won’t cool the jelly. However the mom reassures that the fridge is more intelligent than the father and will adjust the cooling accordingly. Now that’s a cool feature (and an irresponsible dad).

Ok, now Samsung:

Bespoke AI refrigerators by Samsung: Well, I am not so impressed by its features. But lets list out they offer first, before I give my opinion.

The ad starts by speaking about design (nothing AI about that). Then it introduces the power saving feature which it doesn’t explicitly explain how it saves energy using AI. I mean, Godrej was pretty clear about what AI does, this is just vague.

Then lastly it showcases a twin cooling feature which apparently prevents food odours from mixing. And then it has 5 modes. Man, I would hate using this fridge. I like simplicity in my life. If a simple cooling device needs me to read a manual, then really we are not moving in the right direction.

So, I would say Samsung got beaten by Godrej in the communication and product offering. But hey, I am not privy to consumer insights, so I do not know if consumers really find the Samsung features useful. But if it were for me, I would say the Godrej refrigerator is pretty dang useful for me. I would love a fridge which knows how to chill food despite an idiot dad who keeps opening it like that. AI makes it idiot proof.

What Samsung is: is a boatload of features which I have no use for. But maybe I am not the right person to judge. So, if you are considering buying a fridge, you can head out to the Amazon site by clicking here to check out the fridges yourself!
